Family arrives...finally

June 30    Our family has arrived in Anchorage! It's been about 2 1/2 months since we've seen them and we have been waiting for this day. Especially Miki, we really missed her. Josh wasn't able to join us because of his work schedule. He finally got the full time drivers position at UPS, so no vacation for at least a year. Hopefully, we can plan something with Josh and Casey next year.

We're so happy to see Miki

They arrived at 6am so we had to kill time until their hotel was ready. We had breakfast at IHOP, then went for a drive.

First stop, Potter Marsh for wildlife viewing. It was early in the morning but no moose. Lot's of birds and ducks. Spotted some bald eagle but nothing larger than that.

We made a stop to get some glacier water. It flows through a pipe sticking out of the mountain. Everyone was amazed at how cold and clean the water was.

Next was a stop at Bird Point Scenic Overlook
to enjoy the view of Turnagain Arm and check
out the bore tide schedule.

We also made a stop at a house where this guy does wood carvings. The work was absolutely amazing.

We finally got to check in at Comfort Inn at Ship Creek. I booked the family here so they could fish this afternoon. Prior to them arriving, the salmon wasn't really running, but there was always people fishing. When we got there today, nobody was fishing which was really strange. We learned that there was a ban on fishing at Ship Creek from July 1-13 because of the lack of salmon. We couldn't believe it! Randy and Breezy was really bummed. What made it worse is, while they were along the river bank looking into the water, a big king salmon swam right by them.
Joe, Branden, Papa Rudy...just getting started

Joe, Papa Rudy, and Branden ended up drinking all afternoon, Randy took a long nap, and the rest of us walked over to the open market. We had dinner at Olive Garden. Was really good even if we had intoxicated people at our table.
