Valley of Fire State Park

Sept 26     Zion National Park, UT - Valley of Fire State Park, NV     142 miles     3 hrs 15 mins

Valley of Fire State Park is located 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Joe and Josh came here a couple years ago, so Joe wanted to show me this place. It's hot here. When we got to our camp site it was over 90 degrees and climbing. Kind of expensive for a state park. $20 per nite and if you want water and electric, $10 more. With the temperatures here we need to run our air conditioner so we paid $30.

Our site with the strange rocks all around us

We went to the visitors center and drove around most of the park. It's real nice here. The rock formations are pretty interesting. Too bad it's so hot today, we couldn't do any hikes.

We did stop at the Atlatl Rock and checked out the petroglyphs on the side of the mountain, pretty cool.

These steps were kind of scary

It's raining tonight, lightning lit up the sky for hours, and the wind kicked up. I was planning on doing a short hike tomorrow morning before driving to Las Vegas, but with this weather, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
