Sept 27 Valley of Fire - Main Street Station, Las Vegas 50 miles 1 hr 15 mins
We drove back to Vegas today and staying at Main Street Station RV Park for a few days. Dad and Uncle Lionel them are in town so can hang out with them. We are scheduled to fly home on October 8th, so we can slowly start getting the RV ready to store away.
Valley of Fire State Park
Sept 26 Zion National Park, UT - Valley of Fire State Park, NV 142 miles 3 hrs 15 mins
Valley of Fire State Park is located 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas. Joe and Josh came here a couple years ago, so Joe wanted to show me this place. It's hot here. When we got to our camp site it was over 90 degrees and climbing. Kind of expensive for a state park. $20 per nite and if you want water and electric, $10 more. With the temperatures here we need to run our air conditioner so we paid $30.
We went to the visitors center and drove around most of the park. It's real nice here. The rock formations are pretty interesting. Too bad it's so hot today, we couldn't do any hikes.
We did stop at the Atlatl Rock and checked out the petroglyphs on the side of the mountain, pretty cool.
It's raining tonight, lightning lit up the sky for hours, and the wind kicked up. I was planning on doing a short hike tomorrow morning before driving to Las Vegas, but with this weather, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Zion National Park
Sept 24 Lone Rock Beach - Zion National Park,Utah 150 miles 2 1/2 hours
We made our way to Zion National Park and got settled into our campsite. We're at the Watchman Campground located inside the park. Pretty nice here, $18 per nite with electric. We could book only 1 nite here, need to check tomorrow morning if we're able to extend our stay.
This afternoon we did a pretty good hike. We went 1 mile on the Kayenta Trail, continued to the Middle Emerald Pool, then down to the Lower Emerald Pool. This whole hike was about 2.1 miles. Little bit strenuous, along the cliff. We also walked from our campground to the visitor's center to catch the shuttle so we went about 3 miles today. Joe and I had to take Motrin tonight....I guess we overdid it on the hike.
Sept 25
We got going pretty early this morning because we had to go to the other campground in Zion and see if we could get a camp site for tonight. South Campground is first come, first serve. It's dry camping for $16 per night. We got there around 830am and was lucky enough to get site #53. This place is pretty crazy in the morning, everybody trolling around for a site.
After getting settled in our new site, we went for a
hike on the Riverside Walk. A 2.2 mile paved trail that follows the Virgin River along the bottom of a narrow canyon. At the end of this hike, it runs into a harder hike called The Narrows. This hike crosses the river a few times so your shoes get wet ......... we just turned around.
On the way back, we stopped and took our shoes off and soaked our feet in the river. The water was pretty chilly but it felt so good.
In the late afternoon we took a drive on the Zion - Mt Carmel Hwy. The road travels up steep switchbacks for 12 miles, through the historic Zion - Mt Carmel tunnel, and emerges on the south side of the park. Large vehicles are escorted through the tunnel and you need to pay $15. This was a real nice drive, we both enjoyed it.

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Arizona
Sept 22 Cortez, Co - Page, AZ 225 miles 5 hours
It took us about 5 hours to make this drive today. We passed thru four corners but didn't stop. This is where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona meet. We did stop in Kayenta for lunch. Tonight we're camping at Walmart in Page, Arizona.
We took a drive out to the Glen Canyon Dam and did the tour there. Great tour and only $5.
Sept 23
This morning we went on the Lower Slot Canyon tour with Ken's Tour. It was $28 per person and very well worth it. Our guide was really, really good. The views in the canyon change constantly as the sun moves across the sky. There were a lot of steel ladders anchored into the canyon walls. There were also a lot of narrow places to go thru. Amazing!!! I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting this area.
After the tour we moved from Walmart parking lot to Lone Rock Beach in the Glen Canyon Recreation Area. About 18 miles down the road. We are dry camping for $10 per nite. This beach is really neat because a lot of people drive all the way to the shore to camp out. Kind of scary because there's a lot of soft sand so a lot of people get stuck. We played it safe and camped on a hill overlooking the beach. The views were amazing. We did take the Kia down to the beach but Joe was real cautious. We had to go thru some soft sand but the Kia made it and it was fun. The water was real nice and cool.
I love it here, wish we could spend another night but we have reservations at a campground in Zion National Park tomorrow.
